“DeClutter Bug” Blog

Welcome to my “DeClutter Bug” Blog, with a few tips to help you get organized.

January – Set a strategic “DeClutter Plan” for 2024

Set big projects aside and schedule them. For instance, if you're cleaning out backyard storage area or a large pantry, pick a weekend where you might be able to garner some help or have the time necessary to clean out an organize. Try one big project quarterly.

For daily organization, declutter, and clean out pick projects that take less than one hour of your day. You can also split the time for instance, if you are cleaning a box before you leave for work, you might dump the box on your bed, or have everything scattered out so that you can physically see what it is and envision all day where those items might go. In the trash? To the be sold pile? The giveaway pile? Or the “I’m not sure what to do with” pile.

PILES

  1. Trash Pile - make this trash pile your best friend. RECYCLE and LET GO

  2. Put it in its correct place Pile - (even a junk drawer has a place .. ex. Pens) the ULTIMATE organization

  3. Donate Pile - to a friend of family member, the community (put a card with it to tell them the item reminder you of them – this adds value for someone else to enjoy) leave it on their doorstep or drop by the work, either way they will appreciate it. DO not let this pile, pile up. I have a small bin In my trunk, so i get it out of the house, and then I send myself a calendar invite on one of my days off to remind myself to take it. Jewelry you borrowed, the crock pot they brought over for your last gathering, a jacket they left behind etc.

  4. To sell Pile - remember this is creating a new pile, so be strategic

I will outline these piles in more specifics in a future post…
